Picanha in Cascais, straight from the charcoal grill
Picanha is one of the most ordered cuts at Latina Grill in Cascais. It sits in the Premium Selection of the menu as a 250 g portion of picanha from Australia or the USA, and it is cooked over charcoal in full view of the room.
New to picanha? It is the top cap of the rump, with a layer of fat on one side — a classic of South American grilling. That fat cap is what gives it its flavour over the coals.
Picanha and its cousins on the menu
If you like picanha, you will probably enjoy the other cuts in the Premium Selection too:
- Picanha (Australia or USA), 250 g — the house single portion.
- Black Angus Maminha, 250 g — the tip of the rump, tender and lean.
- Vazia, 250 g — the sirloin, with a strip of fat along the side.
- Espetada Latina — a sirloin skewer.
- Costela no Bafo — beef ribs slow-cooked for 12 hours.
How to enjoy it
Keep the fat: trimming it off takes away much of the flavour. The usual way is to slice thinly against the grain, with a little fat on each slice.
Picanha is best medium rare to medium; beyond that it starts to lose its juices. If you prefer your meat well done, just say so when you order — our steak doneness guide shows what changes at each level.
On your own or to share
A 250 g portion is a meal for one. If the table wants to try several cuts, go for a board: the Latina Premium Board and the Aged Meats Board are made for sharing, and the Surf and Turf Board mixes meat and seafood.
There is a Kids menu for children up to 10 and vegetarian dishes for anyone who does not eat meat.
